some aggression out there. He was saying that we couldn’t manage the brutality of the England team.

“But when you are a winner, a competitor, you just want to show him that you can.”

Les Bleus powered into a 24-0 lead and Jones said: “That was a game that could’ve been quite ugly for us.”

England saved face with two late solo tries from Jonny May earning them a losing bonus point but Manu Tuilagi suffered a fresh groin injury and limped off after just 16 minutes. Jones said: “We weren’t good enough first half and they were very good.

“We didn’t win the gainline but I don’t think we’d have seen the response we got in the second half if we had a mental hangover (from the World Cup).”

England were a try down after just six minutes and then gifted France a second by not playing to the whistle.

May said: “That’s one of the first things you learn – play to the whistle – and I didn’t so I’ll own that one.”

DAN BIGGAR revealed that his outrageous through-thelegs assist to send over Josh Adams made him the butt of several jokes from his Wales team-mates.

Brilliant Biggar set up Adams for the first of his three tries as Wales crushed Italy in Wayne Pivac’s first competitive game in charge.

After the five-try rout of the woeful Italians, who have now lost 23 consecutive Six Nations games, Biggar said: “The boys have given me a bit of stick.

“I think I could have just passed it normally but the ball was slightly behind me, so I thought I would just flick it and hope for the best.’’

It’s Ireland up next in Dublin and Biggar added: “It will be a completely different challenge.

“You have to put the hard yards in first before looking to do anything too fancy, especially when your two away games are in Dublin and at Twickenham.

“The Aviva (in Dublin) is a very difficult place to play and Ireland’s record there speaks for itself.

“What is important for us is that we have started the campaign really well and it is now all about building on that momentum.’’
