Love Isle tribute to Caroline
BOSSES at ITV finally told Love Island stars the “devastating” news about Caroline Flack’s death – hours before the live final.
Luke Trotman, Siannise Fudge, Finley Tapp, Paige Turley, Ched Uzor, Jess Gale, Luke Abbott and Demi Jones had been preparing for the final in Cape Town.
But off screen, the couples were made aware Caroline had taken her own life. They were said to be “saddened and stunned” at the news.
Host Laura Whitmore choked back tears last night as she paid tribute to Caroline during the live final.
She said the death of the former host had been “hard to come to terms with”, adding: “Caroline loved Love Island, she loved love.
“And that’s why tonight’s final is dedicated to her.”
Despite the tragedy overshadowing the end of the series, viewers were shown the couples preparing to try to win the £50,000 grand prize after two months of couplings and dumping dramas.
And in scenes which ex-Strictly Come Dancing champion Caroline no doubt would have enjoyed, they were shown learning how to tango as previous finalists have also done.
They later threw on their finest evening wear ahead of host Laura crowning the winners.
Each of the islanders then read out a declaration, with Luke T and rival Finn both declaring their love for their respective partners.
Luke composed a heartfelt poem, writing: “Siannise I honestly cannot believe I’ve found a real-life princess. And life feels enchanted ever since you said yes. I pinky promise to always make your fairy tale dreams come true.
“From the bottom of my heart I’m proud to say, I really do love you.”
Finn said to Paige: “I came and found a girlfriend and a best friend. I know I said I’d wait, but I also said, when I feel it I’d say it. So Paigey, I want you to know that I love you.”
