Seibt will take part in the Conservative Political Action Conference, a rightwing convention at which the US President, inset, is the main attraction. Trump has mocked Thunberg for her views, urging world leaders to ignore her and other “prophets of doom”.
Seibt has been chosen by US conservative think-tank the Heartland Institute as a poster girl in its battle against the green movement.
One of the group’s videos, called “Naomi Seibt vs. Greta Thunberg: whom should we trust?” features footage of both teenagers. Another is captioned: “I want you to think”. Naomi says she used to be like Greta, but is now sceptical of “climate alarmism”.
She said: “As a young girl I grew up around the climate change hysteria in the media, in my schoolbooks. “I thought by hugging the trees I could save the planet, which turned out not to be true. Look around. We are living in such an amazing era of fast progress and innovation.
“We are not allowed to be proud of that at all? Instead debates are being shut down and real scientists lose their jobs.” Her claims contrast with Greta’s warnings. In a speech to the UN last year, she told officials: “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money, and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
