IT’S DANNY JOY
RHYSE RECALL SHOT
DANNY RICHARDSON inspired a classy Castleford comeback as the Tigers continued their positive start to the season.
Daryl Powell’s side trailed 6-0 after the opening 35 minutes before finding a way to consistently break Hull KR down through the middle of the field.
Former St Helens starlet Richardson thrived on the back of that, creating a superb try for Michael Shenton, touching down himself and finishing the night with 16 points.
His partnership with fellow young gun Jake Trueman is still in its infancy but there have been plenty of encouraging signs for Powell in their four wins from their opening five games.
Rovers now have the opposite record following their opening night win over Wakefield, and after a bright start they struggled to contain the Tigers. Coach
Tony Smith is missing a host of key players and he needs them back quickly to avoid another relegation scrap.
The Robins were boosted pre-match by a video update from prop Mose Masoe, who suffered a career-ending spinal injury in pre-season at Wakefield.
The Samoa international is now sitting in a wheelchair in hospital six weeks after the incident but retains a
LEEDS back rower Rhyse Martin is raring to go after an in-growing hair left him with a wound like a ‘bullet hole’.
The Papua New Guinea international has missed the last two matches with the chest issue, which coach Richard Agar compared to a gun shot wound.
It has now sufficiently healed for Martin
(inset) to return against Warrington after sitting out wins over Hull KR and Salford.
He said: “It was quite nasty. It was about three centimetres wide, a centimetre thick and a centimetre deep, so it wasn’t very pretty.
“But it healed pretty quick. The doc’s happy with it so it’s a matter of whether Rich wants me to play or not – the boys have had two wins since I haven’t played.”
Martin is set to form a back-row partnership with on-loan debutant Joe Greenwood, with Stevie Ward ruled out while he sees a concussion specialist.
Former Man of Steel Ben Barba has been charged with assault in his latest off-field incident in Australia. The ex-St Helens full-back, 30, is alleged to have punched his brother-in-law in a pub, having been banned from the NRL after pleading guilty to two counts of public nuisance last year.
