IT’S LOTTI BOTHER
CARLO ANCELOTTI was shown a red card for confronting referee Chris Kavanagh after a controversial end to Everton’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United yesterday.
The Toffees boss was fuming after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late deflected winner was ruled out for offside.
VAR overturned the assistant referee’s decision that Gylfi Sigurdsson was not interfering with play as he sat in front of United
keeper David De Gea. Ancelotti marched up to question Kavanagh at the end.
“I asked for an explanation after the game,” said Ancelotti.
“There was a misunderstanding on the pitch and he sent me off. After that I spoke with him calmly in the dressing room.
“I didn’t disrespect him but I understand the end of the game was really exciting.”
Ancelotti can expect a touchline ban which could affect his return to former club Chelsea on Sunday.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims De Gea is still the best keeper in the world, despite gifting Calvert-Lewin the opener by dithering on the ball.
The Spaniard’s attempted clearance was then charged down and rebounded into the net – but Bruno Fernandes later equalised.
Solskjaer said: “David is for me the best goalkeeper in the world. I trust David 100 per cent.”
But former United captain Roy Keane said: “I would have lynched him at halftime. I’d have no time for that carry on.
“What is he waiting for? I think it’s almost a bit of arrogance.” Match report:
