The Jockey Club made the call following government advice, which stated emergency services will be withdrawn from supporting mass gatherings from tomorrow.

More than 150,000 people usually attend Aintree’s Grand National meeting.

From today horse racing in Britain will be held without crowds. The British Horseracing

Authority (BHA) also revealed that many other cards are likely to be cancelled to protect staff and to free up critical public services. Officials were following the lead of Ireland and Scotland who have banned spectators

Kelso in the Scottish borders was held behind closed doors yesterday and Nick Rust, chief executive of the British Horseracing Authority, said the decision to cancel certain fixtures would be “based on availability of staff and the practicalities of staging events with no income from spectators.”

He added: “Racecourses and racing yards are embedded in their local communities and we are aware of our responsibilities to protect public health.

“The restrictions we are putting in place to close racing to spectators and limit attendees will reduce demand on public services.

“We also have a range of measures in place designed in response to the Government’s guidance on public health.

“We are following the government’s advice to strike a balance between protecting public health and maintaining business activity.” 6.29 1 366 2 3535 3 3564 4 6166 5 3 Glenhead Rio 6 1 35 FARRAN BUZZ 6.47 1 2411 2 3334 3 5231 4 6316 5 3254 6 1432 7.05 1 3254 2 1644 3 3356 4 4415 5 5533 6 132 (A7) (A4) LAGILE MASTER (nb)
