PC gets comical

Comic book ‘woke’ superheroes no joke

MARVEL bosses have revealed a pair of new woke superheroes for the modern generation named Snowflake and Safespace.

The comic book bosses behind Spider-man created the psychicpowered twins as part of the New Warriors comic book series.

Snowflake, who has cropped blue hair with a matching tight outfit, throws snowflake-shaped blades.

The character is also non-binary – going by the pronoun they.

And Safespace, described as a

“big, burly sort of stereotypical jock”, creates pink forcefields to defend against nasty enemies.

The new heroes have not gone down well with some comic fans who claim they make a mockery of the LGBTQ community while others branded it a publicity stunt.

One comic fan slammed: “This is what happens when someone who heard about wokeness thinks this is what diverse audiences want to see.”

Another added: “The New Warriors characters have to be the most stupid and ridiculous bunch of characters ever. Can we talk about how Marvel is making a joke out of the LGBTQ+ audience?”

Other characters in the series include “goth kid” vampire B-negative, super teen Screentime and oversized Trailblazer.

But writers for the comic creators have defended the designs.

Daniel Kibblesmith said: “The connotations of the word ‘snowflake’ right now are something fragile and this is a character who is turning it into something sharp.”

WE all love a drink in the pub.

Going down the boozer is an integral part of British culture. And many of us rarely go a week without a trip to our local. But these are not normal times. What is happening around the world is unprecedented. For the vast majority of us it’s the worst global crisis we have ever experienced. So we all have to be a bit sensible and listen to the experts. If the people fighting this disease tell us that we shouldn’t go to pubs or restaurants then we shouldn’t. Yes it’s annoying. Yes it’s boring. But it will not be for ever. The more people who follow the rules the quicker we’ll be through this. And – more crucially – fewer people will die. You can’t beat this outbreak by sticking two fingers up and carrying on as normal. We should all realise that now.

Common sense has prevailed.
