NHS heroes’ fury over Chas test ‘queue jump’ Prince met host of stars..and Queen

- by JAMES CAVEN

FURIOUS NHS workers last night demanded to know why celebrities and royalty are getting checked for coronavirus while frontline medical staff risking their lives every day can’t get their hands on a test.

NHS workers are demanding to know why famous people are at the front of the queue for coronavirus testing.

The row broke out after Prince Charles revealed he has the illness.

The heir to the throne, 71, has “mild symptoms” but “otherwise remains in good health”.

But the news sparked a backlash as NHS heroes demanded to know why increasing numbers of celebrities were getting tested ahead of front line medical staff. Anger has grown over the absence of test kits in hospitals.

Many medical staff fear they are “cannon fodder” and risk infecting patients and their families. One NHS doctor tweeted: “Why am I refused a test after seeing patients with covid infections and Prince Charles or any celebrity can get a test within seconds?”

Coughing

Another medic said: “Nurses here coughing and unwell and told to go home. No test. Prince Charles, mild symptoms, tested. NHS workers are cannon fodder.” TV host Piers Morgan said: “There are legitimate questions to be asked about why members of the Royal Family can instantly get them but NHS workers can’t.”

Charles and his wife Camilla, who is healthy, are now self-isolating at Birkhall estate in Aberdeenshire.

The royal met celebs at the Prince’s Trust Awards in London on March 11, just two weeks before his diagnosis. He last saw the Queen, 93, the following day. She “remains in good health” and is self-isolating at Windsor Castle.

Clarence House insisted that the Prince “met the criteria required for testing”.

Celebs who have tested positive include actor Idris Elba and ex-england footballer Clive Allen, 58, who met NHS criteria. Clive is recovering but his wife Lisa remains “unwell”.

The UK death toll yesterday rose to 465.
