DVLA puts brakes on cheeky private car number plates
THIS family group – including girls aged five and three – have been found dead in a suspected murder-suicide.
The bodies of Ava, Needham and younger sister Lexi were found along with mum Kelly Fitzgibbons, 40, and dad Robert, 42, police confirmed yesterday.
The tragedy happened days after the family shared a post of a “lovely lockdown walk”.
Sussex Police launched a murder probe after being called to the home in Woodmancote, near Chichester on Sunday.
Chief Supt Jerry Westerman said: “We are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.’’
KILLJOY road chiefs at the DVLA have cracked down on rude number plates made with the new 20 car registrations.
Among the registrations on the banned list are M20 RON (moron), HO20 KER, (hooker), WH20 REE (whore) and UG20 HEL (you go to hell).
DVLA officials hold meetings twice a year to decide on which offensive plates to ban.
A spokesman said: “The vast majority of numbers are made available but the agency holds back combinations that may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste.
“Many people enjoy a personalised registration number and there are over 50 million on our website, with almost endless combinations to suit taste, interests and budget.”
The agency, based in Swansea, makes up to £160million a year from personalised plate sales.
More than 5,000 of the new 2020 registrations have been sold across the UK, even though they were only released on March 1.
Interest has “exceeded expectations”, with options such as BL20 NDE and ST20 MZY costing from £1,499 to £14,999.
A spokesman for number plate dealer National
Numbers said: “We have had an incredible response which has exceeded our expectations.
“We are predicting a renewed surge in interest now people are able to put the plates on to vehicles.”
The boom comes after xperts at website Carwow said millions of motorists were put off by last year’s 69 plates.
