Fixture list revealed
NEWCASTLE on June 1 will host the first racing fixture since the industry was locked down by coronavirus on March 17.
Kempton will take centre stage the following day and both Flat fixtures will be on the all-weather.
Turf racing will resume at Yarmouth on June 3 and further fixtures have been allocated up to June 8.
Last night, the BHA revealed plans for the resumption of racing that will take place behind closed doors.
A statement added: “We are also working with racecourses to develop a fixture list to cover June 9 onwards.
“This will provide greater clarity for racecourses and support participants, particularly trainers and owners, in planning for your horses.
“We intend to publish the fixture list and race programme for the remainder of June by the end of next week.
“Additionally, the Flat Pattern Committee yesterday published an updated plan for Flat Pattern and Listed races, which covers the first seven days following the resumption – including the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas on June 6 and 7.
“The timetable also includes provisional dates for Royal Ascot (June 16-20), the Derby and Oaks (Saturday, July 4) and the Eclipse (Sunday, July 5).
“There will be no regional restrictions in place for Britishbased horses but details about the participation of foreign trained runners following the resumption of racing will be issued today.
■ RACEHORSE owners will take a mighty hit as prize money has been slashed by more than 50% for major Flat races when racing resumes on June 1.
Richard Wayman, Chief Operating Officer for the BHA, said: “British racing’s recovery will be dependent on the continuing support of owners so it is therefore regrettable we have had to reduce minimum prize money levels.
“The values will therefore remain under constant review as it is important that they are raised at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Lower-tier races have received an injection of £15.7m from the Horserace Betting Levy Board.
Minimum values exceed, on average, 80% of the previously permitted minimum levels.
