Pubs to ‘reopen in July’
Eustice: May be as soon as July for drink
PUBS will be able to reopen in July – as long as there is the science to support such a move.
Environment Secretary George Eustice told MPS the Government was “working with the hospitality and pub sector to identify what social distancing measures they might be able to put in place to make that work properly”.
Mr Eustice said: “We intend that the hospitality sector, including pubs, would be able to tentatively start gradually opening hopefully during the month of July – subject to the epidemiology supporting such a move.”
His claim came as Tory MP David Johnston said
that pubs operating as takeaways was “not a substitute for being open properly”.
Meanwhile, a bar has come up with a hilarious way of serving beer while social distancing – by pouring it down drinkers’ throats from a balcony.
Bosses filmed a video showing a staff member carrying a pint of lager on to the outdoor terrace above a drinker. The barman then announces: “Social distancing pint.”
Host bar in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts, posted the video on Instagram and Facebook and added: “Fancy a proper pint?”

A seven-year-old with an underlying health condition is among another 545 people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 35,341.
An alternative way of measuring Covid-19 fatalities would put the death toll nearer 44,000, the Office for National Statistics said. Meanwhile, UK testing dropped below the 100,000 daily target again, with 89,784 carried out on Monday.
