Liverpool could wrap up title 3 days later... in Manchester!

- ■ by JEREMY CROSS

LIVERPOOL are ready to clinch their first league title for 30 years in a Merseyside derby played in Manchester.

The 20 Premier League clubs have decided to restart their season on June 17 but face a major problem because the police are refusing to budge on neutral venues.

And that means Jurgen Klopp’s men could travel to Old Trafford or the Etihad to play their crunch derby match with Everton on

Saturday, June 20. The big kick off three days earlier will feature Aston Villa hosting Sheffield United and Arsenal travelling to Manchester City in the two games in hand left over when the season was curtailed.

If Pep Guardiola’s men lose to the Gunners it means Klopp’s men will be champions should they beat Everton.

The game was originally scheduled for Goodison Park but

Monday:

Tuesday: Thursday: police have always feared that playing such a high-profile match in Liverpool would lead to fans congregating outside to celebrate, hence why they are poised to switch venues.

In another stunning twist, the Merseyside derby will be shown free-to-air as part of a TV bonanza.

It is scheduled to be broadcast on Sky Sports and will be among 25 of their 64 games which will be made available to all viewers and accessible 8pm. 12pm, on Freeview. The BBC will also make history by showing four live Premier League games for the first time.

The TV windfall is unprecedented in England, as all of the remaining 92 games will be shown and split between Sky, BT Sport, Amazon and the BBC. There will also be additional Match of the Day shows.

The derby is one of 12 games which have been earmarked for neutral venues due to police concerns about social gatherings. Home and away matches look likely for the vast majority of games after yesterday’s meeting between the Premier League and clubs to discuss Project Restart.

Clubs are set to vote on the new proposals next Thursday.

It is understood once Liverpool, who are 25 points clear at the top, have clinched the title they can stage their remaining home games at Anfield.

Reds bosses are keen to stand up for their fans and don’t want them singled out.
