THE JOY OF SIX

Family & friends reunited Prem kicks off on June 17

UP to six people can meet in parks and gardens, two metres apart, when lockdown is eased from Monday.

And Premier League football will restart on June 17.

PEOPLE were last night planning a week of barbecues in the 28C heatwave after Boris Johnson said families can finally reunite after more than two months apart.

The Prime Minister is relaxing lockdown measures from Monday to allow groups of up to six to mingle in gardens and parks, as long as those from different households stay 2m apart.

People will finally be able to see both of their parents and grandparents after 70 days of lockdown.

And with temperatures expected to be in the late 20s next week, it is hoped easing restrictions will boost the nation.

Mr Johnson said: “These changes mean that friends and family can start to meet their loved ones – perhaps seeing both parents at once or both grandparents at once.

“What you certainly can imagine is there could be meetings of families in a garden. These changes mean friends and family will start to meet loved ones in a long awaited and joyful moment.” But he added: “We don’t want people to stay overnight, we don’t want people to go to other households and stay there.”

The PM also said schools and nurseries will open on Monday to children in reception classes as well as years one and six.

And if the rate of infection continues to fall, secondary schools will open to pupils in years 10 and 12 from June 15.

Mr Johnson confirmed that outdoor retail outlets and car showrooms will be allowed to open from Monday, while other non-essential shops will be given the green light to open their doors two weeks later.

He urged families not to meet multiple people from other households on the same day to prevent the infection rate from spiking further as the key R rate hovers between 0.7 and 1. If it goes above 1, there may need to be a tightening of the rules again.
