BRITS BAKING AS MERCURY SOARS

BRITAIN is hotter than Morocco with temperatures soaring towards 30C this week.

Summer is in full swing with tomorrow set to be the hottest day of the year – beating the 28.2C recorded in May.

The north is due to hit 26C, making it balmier than Essaouira in Morocco where it will be 23C. Many places in the south will peak between 25C and 30C.

The heatwave comes after millions flocked to the beaches to enjoy highs of 27C at the weekend.

Meanwhile, food and drink sales have rocketed as Brits prepare to meet in gardens and parks as lockdown measures are relaxed from today.

Co-op BBQ food sales trebled compared to the same time last year, while demand for Sainsbury’s sausages and M&S burgers also jumped.

Sizzler

Met Office forecaster Aidan Mcgivern predicted an early summer sizzler. He said: “There’s potential for southern England to approach 30C on Tuesday.”

However the sunshine won’t last as a 500-mile wide band of cool air hits from Thursday.

The Met Office said temperatures will fall by up to 15C by the end of the week.

Summer snow is predicted in Scotland, while frost threatens as far south as the Midlands.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “There’s a big change ahead, with colder temperatures as winds turn northerly. Temperatures could drop 10 to 15C.” Former BBC forecaster John Hammond added: “Frost would not be a surprise in parts of central and northern Britain by the end of the week.

“But the bigger picture suggests a lot of warm and dry weather through the first half of summer.”
