CALLS TO TAKE FATCATS’ LOLLY

Blast at £100k-a-year bosses

- ■ by BERNY TORRE

MORE than 500 Transport for London fatcats rake in over £100,000 a year – despite the travel chiefs needing a £1.6billion bailout from the taxpayer.

TFL bosses had a whopping 518 on the eye-watering salary in 2018-19 – with 114 getting over £150,000 in the tax year.

And commissioner Michael

Brown took home £508,000 including a £134,000 bonus.

The Tube’s managing director Nigel Holness took home £345,000 over the year in salary, bonus and expenses.

Last month the public body was bailed out by taxpayers after saying it needed emergency funds to avoid going bust. Right-wing campaign group The Taxpayers’ Alliance has called on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to stop the “rise in top tier salaries” as it published its City Hall Rich List 2020.

TPA researcher Darwin Friend said: “These stupendous City Hall salaries are a steep burden on taxpayers across the capital. They’re paying higher council tax bills and being forced to fork out for pay and perks that most Londoners could only dream of.”

The figures also showed Mr Khan took home £150,644 in pay, bonuses and benefits with 15 of his staff earning more than £100,000.

The Mayor’s Office declined to respond and TFL have been contacted for comment.

WHAT a cheek! More than 500 London transport fatcats have been trousering £100,000 a year

Yet hard-up taxpayers are being forced to bail them out.

Bosses at Transport for London pleaded with the Government for a £1.6billion rescue package.

They argued they desperately needed help to keep Tube and bus services running during the pandemic.

But it’s now emerged they have been throwing money around like confetti.

Boss Michael Brown took home a staggering £508,000. And 114 of his bigwigs pocketed more than £150,000 last year.

That’s a huge amount of cash for an organisation pleading poverty.

Meanwhile, families are struggling to make ends meet and our hero nurses are paid a pittance.

Mr Brown should have slashed his own shameful costs before getting out the begging bowl.

Times are tough. Every penny counts. If we’re really in this together, then everyone needs to do their bit.

The hard-working public should not have to bare the brunt so these people can line their pockets.
