DUSTY BINNED!

3-2-1revamp deemed a complete Carr crash

PLANS to revive TV game show 3-2-1 with Dusty Bin as the booby prize were axed because it was judged too complicated.

When ITV chiefs were choosing which iconic quizzes to bring back for Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow on Saturday nights, 3-2-1 was suggested.

But the idea was canned after producers realised it was too difficult compared to Play Your Cards Right and The Price Is Right.

Jonno Richards, the boss of Talkback who make Epic Gameshow, said: “Some game shows feel riper for a return than others.

“We looked at 3-2-1 but it’s really tricky.

“There’s a question bit, performance bit, then there are riddles. It wouldn’t work.”

The hit programme was hosted by the late Ted Rogers in the 1970s and 80s.

Three couples competed in a general knowledge buzzer round before one pair were eliminated.

Its mascot was the mechanical Dusty Bin and the two remaining couples had to unravel riddles to avoid winning a metal dustbin as the booby prize and instead go home with a car or holiday.

Objects were presented as clues to the riddles but these proved almost impossible to solve.

They included a piece of wood with the clue: “Take a stab, lend an ear. What’s in there, is in here” (a pine table and chairs), and a fly with: “If the king and the castle be one night, this is a hit with you on sight” (a trip to Bangkok).

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow airs on Saturday at 7.30pm with Take Your Pick. Also still to come are Strike It Lucky and Bullseye.
