Budget or bust... wooden sun loungers
GREAT news for all shoppers as lockdown continues to lift – loads of stores are re-opening their doors on Monday.
It won’t be the same as before Covid-19 because social distancing rules will totally change the experience.
It may take time getting used to assistants in masks, Perspex screens and one-way systems around stores.
But we still can’t wait to get out after months of being cooped up at home.
Here are details of who is opening and what to expect when you venture back on to the high street – and don’t forget your mask.
Many stores are reopening initially with reduced opening hours – so make sure you check before you go.
Some stores may not accept cash. Arcadia Group says it is only accepting card and contactless payments.
One-way systems will ensure social distancing rules are followed. Dartford’s Bluewater Shopping Centre has already said it will operate a one-way system.
To accommodate this, bigger stores will have fewer entrances. And most will have Perspex screens at the till.
Some stores will shift focus on to certain products, giving more space to them. Marks & Spencer, for example, has increased its kidswear space by 30%.
Expect restrictions on numbers allowed in stores at any one time – each shop has its own policy. Queuing will be the new norm, so be prepared!
Many shops will encourage contactless transactions up to £45 to minimise contact between staff and customers.
Protective screens round checkouts and floor markings will ensure you stand two metres apart in queues.
Staff will wear masks and gloves and hygiene will be increased around areas of contact, such as tills and counters.
Hand sanitiser stations will be available around stores.
Items may be put into quarantine if you touch but don’t buy. John Lewis will remove clothing items and Waterstones its books for three days, while Clarks will quarantine shoes for 24 hours.
There will be reduced car parking. Intu, whose 14 centres include the Trafford Centre and Lakeside, will limit the number of people and cars allowed in at a time.
Fitting rooms will remain closed.
Instore cafés and restaurants will stay closed in line with Government rules. But some Marks & Spencer stores will offer a coffee takeaway service.
Close-contact beauty services, treatments, testers and face-to-face consultations will not be available. Bra fitting services won’t be on offer. John Lewis’s and Marks & Spencer’s opticians will remain closed, but Boots is offering face-to-face appointments with those who need them.
Personal shopping services will not be available.
