Fiend got letter in 2013
BUNGLING German cops tipped off Christian Brueckner about being a suspect in the Madeleine Mccann case seven years ago.
They sent the pervert a letter asking him to visit their HQ so he could be interviewed in relation to the case.
And police sources said this “heads up” gave him the chance to dispose of any potential evidence linking him to Maddie – such as a video or a “trophy”.
Brueckner had videoed himself raping a widow of 72 in Praia da Luz two years before Madeleine, inset, vanished there aged three in 2007.
A criminology experts said alerting him was a “serious mistake”, adding: “It is common to first gather info in the area and not to attack a suspect head-on.”
Brueckner, 43, got the letter, headed “Subpoena as a witness”, on November 4, 2013. It said: “B. should come to the station for ‘interrogation.’ The Missing Madeleine Mccann.”
It emerged amid growing tensions between international forces. The Portuguese are reportedly “livid” after a German prosecutor said working with them was “cumbersome”. The Portuguese privately accuse the Germans of “pretending to know it all”. And German cops say Madeleine is dead while our Met insists she could be alive.
A UK source said: “Rifts can only do further damage to an investigation hampered by international boundaries.’’ Meanwhile, Brueckner’s new lawyer was targeted for representing the fiend. Johann Schwenn arrived at his offices yesterday to find windows smashed and graffiti saying: “Shame on you Schwenn.” reason:
