Gary attacks trolls mocking 3 Lions player

GARY Lineker has blasted trolls for taking aim at Three Lions star Marcus Rashford over his charity work to feed pupils.

The Manchester United striker, 22, is urging the Government to reverse a decision to stop free school meal vouchers during the summer.

He has raised about £20million to supply three million meals to vulnerable people.

Match Of The Day host Gary, 59, tweeted: “Some of you on here are saying that poor children shouldn’t be given a food voucher that will stop them from going hungry. Think about that for a second.”

The ex-england captain added: “A young footballer shouldn’t have to be imploring our government to do this, but it’s great that he is. What a fine young man.”

In a letter to all MPS, Rashford wrote: “The system was not built for families like mine to succeed, regardless of how hard my mum worked.

“Political affiliations aside, can we not all agree that no child should be going to be hungry?”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday rejected the footballer’s plea to reconsider the decision.

A Downing Street spokesman said the PM will reply to the letter “as soon as he can” adding:

“He (Rashford) has been using his profile in a positive way to highlight some very important issues.

“The Prime Minister understands the issues facing families across the UK.”

He pointed out the Government last week announced £63m for local authorities to help families who are struggling to afford food.
