SIR Nick Clegg has defended Facebook’s refusal to censor controversial posts by Donald Trump.

Facebook has been criticised for failing to take down posts by the US President criticising antiracism protesters in Minnesota and warning “when the looting starts the shooting starts”.

Sir Nick told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “The best way to hold politicians to account for what they say – the good, the bad and the ugly – is to make sure that people can hear what they say.”

Facebook’s rival platform Twitter placed a warning on the President’s “shooting” post, claiming it incited violence.

Sir Nick said he personally found the post abhorrent but people who did not agree with Mr Trump should campaign and vote against him in the election. ★
