Forest star will stay till the end

MICHAEL DAWSON has pledged to see out his career at Nottingham Forest after agreeing a new one-year deal.

The 36-year-old former Tottenham and England star says he is hell-bent on trying to get the club back in the Premier League.

Dawson said: “Hopefully I’ll keep going as long as I can. Someone one day will tell me that they’re not wanting to give me a contract and that’ll be the day I’ll retire.

“But it’s not about that at this moment, it’s about helping the lads achieve what we want to achieve as a football club and as a city, of getting back to the league that is the best league in the world.”

Forest are fifth with nine games remaining and tackle Sheffield Wednesday in their first game of the restart on Saturday.

Dawson added: “Leeds and West Brom are there, but we all want to be in that top two. We’re hunting them down.”

Dawson is a lifelong Forest fan, starting his career at the City Ground before joining Spurs in 2005.

He added: “I definitely believe I’ve got more to give. Probably 18 months ago, when I picked up the bad injury, when I did my hamstring in a bad way, that was when you’re thinking, ‘can you come back from that?.’

“I think you realise when you’re ready to call time. I’m very fortunate that I’m not and I know I can still play at this level with the lads.

“I’ve always said, I love playing football. The day I finish will be a sad day. I will be seeing out my career at Forest now.

“The club gave me the opportunity to play first-team football from the age of 18. I moved on to fulfil my dreams in the Premier League.

“To get Forest back into the Premier League after 21 years, and to be part of that squad, would be just amazing.”
