Shaw’s aiming to pile Mour misery on ex-boss

LUKE SHAW insists Manchester United want to pile more pain on former boss Jose Mourinho.

Before the lockdown in March, Spurs suffered a run of six games without a win in all competitions.

That left Mourinho’s side in eighth place, seven points adrift of the top four and struggling to secure Champions League qualification.

United, however, were high on confidence following an unbeaten run of 11 matches that left them within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men beat Spurs 2-1 in December thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford, to make it a miserable return to Old Trafford for Mourinho. Shaw claims United were unplayable that night and the squad have been poring over video footage of the performance in the hope of repeating it at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow.

Shaw said: “The magnitude of this fixture and how defining it could be in our season if we get a good result makes it massive for us.

“We’ve got to play the way we were playing before the break and we need to make sure we’re up for it and get off to a good start in this final part of the season.

“We can take a lot of heart from our performance in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford this season.

“We’ve watched clips of that game this week and I think we were virtually unplayable at times that night.

“We pressed Spurs really high, made it tough for them to play out and when we had the ball we were quick with our decisions and actions. Apart from their goal, which was great but might have been handball, I don’t think they created many chances. Hopefully we can take a lot from that game into this one.”

Bruno Fernandes is relishing the chance to link-up with Paul Pogba for the first time.

The midfielder has been a revelation since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in a £67.4m deal in January.

He has still to play alongside Pogba, who has spent most of the season on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

But the three-month break has given Pogba the chance to recover his full fitness.

Fernandes said: “I think everyone is excited to see Paul Pogba play again after his long injury. For me, playing alongside him will be amazing.”
