Whisky maniac gets jail

A DRIVER who killed his friend after dozing off while downing whisky at the wheel has been jailed for five years.

Sukhdeep Gill, 36, drifted onto the M6 hard shoulder and ploughed into a stationary van at 70mph.

His passenger Junaid Akhtar, 37, suffered horrific injuries and died in hospital a week later.

Police who attended the smash, near Knutsford, Cheshire in 2018, found whisky bottles in the vehicle.

Gill, of Blackburn admitted causing death by careless driving while under the influence of excess alcohol and was also banned from driving for six years at Chester Crown Court.
