Matip vows Reds won’t let up

- ■ by CHRIS MCKENNA

JOEL MATIP insists Liverpool will not put their feet up once they finally clinch the Premier League title as they eye a record-breaking season.

The Reds need just six points to win their first league crown in 30 years.

If they beat Everton on Sunday at Goodison and then Crystal Palace on Wednesday at Anfield, they are champions with seven games to spare.

Centre-back Matip (left) said: “Nobody will stop when we achieve something, we are just looking to the next game and the next game.

“Now we play against Everton and this is a special game for both teams, but to start again I think will be a weird and special moment for every team. We are well prepared.”

This may be a strange end to the season but it could still be a record-breaking one for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all won 18 league games at home in a Premier League season.

But Klopp’s side are yet to drop a point at Anfield and, with four home games to go, can top that with 19.

With 82 points already in the bag, City’s record 100-point tally for a top-flight season from 2017-18 is also in their sights.

Reading’s overall league record of 106 points – in a 46-game season in the Championship – could yet be bettered from a Premier League with 38 matches.

City also have the most wins in a season at 32, which, with 27 already collected, Liverpool can comfortably pass.

They can also better City and Tottenham’s joint top-flight record of 16 away wins, although that might be the trickiest, with five needed from five on the road.
