Timo in now it’s Kai time

- by PAUL BROWN

CHELSEA clinched the £47.5m signing of Timo Werner last night and then jumped to the front of the queue for Kai Havertz.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich both want Bayer Leverkusen star Havertz to wait a year before joining them.

But his club want any potential deal done now because he only has two years left on his contract, opening the door for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old also set tongues wagging yesterday when he liked a Tweet in response to the signing of Werner that said simply: “Announce Havertz.”

It was the first Tweet the Germany star, who is rated at £90m by Leverkusen, has liked in seven days.

Bayern have decided to focus on Manchester City’s Leroy Sane this summer and think Havertz is overpriced.

And while Real believe he wants to join them, they need to shift a host of players first to

fund the deal and make space in their squad and they would prefer to wait.

Manchester United are also in the running but are favourites to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead.

RB Leipzig capture Werner promised Chelsea fans the good times were about to start rolling yesterday, after agreeing a five-year deal worth £170,00 a week, saying: “I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea.

“It is a proud moment for me to be joining this great club.

“Together we have a successful future ahead of us.”

Chelsea transfer guru Marina Granovskaia, who was instrumental in negotiating the deal, said: “We are very excited that Timo Werner has chosen to join Chelsea.

“He is a player who was coveted all over Europe and has that rare mix of being young and exciting and yet established and proven.”

Werner has 32 goals and 13 assists in all competitions this season and can play in a variety of positions.

Havertz has grabbed 12 goals and provided six assists in 28 league games so far this campaign.
