BRITS IN A SPIN WITH HEATWAVE AFTER RAIN

BRITAIN is set to bask in a heatwave of up to 35C after suffering a week of torrential downpours.

The baking hot spell will start slowly this weekend, before reaching scorching temperatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

It will make Britain hotter than Los Angeles, Athens and Mallorca.

The heatwave will be a welcome relief for millions of Brits who were battered by thunderstorms and heavy rain in the past week.

While conservative forecasts suggest it will be 30C or 31C, bookmaker Ladbrokes make it just 2-1 to hit a sizzling 35C. The firm also make it odds on that the hottest day of 2020 so far is recorded before the end of June.

Jessica O’reilly of Ladbrokes said: “The sizzling weather will see plenty of workers move their desks outside next week as the country basks in the sunshine.

“All bets are off when it comes to the hottest day of the year being recorded before the month’s out.”

Today is the longest day of the year and could see highs of 22C.

But the serious temperatures begin on Tuesday when it will leap to 27C or 28C.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “30C looks almost nailed-on and 32C is possible.”

John Hammond of weathertrending said: “After the rain, the first hot spell of summer is on the way.

“Low pressure in the mid-atlantic will suck in air from sub-tropical latitudes in our direction. 30C could well be surpassed in the south and east, with increasingly warm sunshine.”
