BRITS SET FOR BINGE BONANZA

- by JACK ANDREWS jack.andrews@dailystar.co.uk

BRITAIN is braced for its biggest ever booze-up on July 4 when pubs reopen for the ultimate Super Saturday.

Boris Johnson yesterday announced the plan to end many of the dreaded lockdown measures in England.

Boozers, restaurants, cinemas, hairdressers, theme parks and caravan sites will be back in business providing they are “Covid-secure”.

Jubilant Brits were last night plotting their triumphant returns to their locals for mega-sessions.

And the return of pubs will be made easier as the PM also announced he will slash the two-metre social distancing rule to one-metre from July 4.

The Signal Box in Cleethorpes, Lincs, which claims to be our smallest pub, is among those reopening, despite the bar being less than six square metres.

Mr Johnson told the House of Commons yesterday: “We are now able to make life easier for people to see more of their friends and families. And help businesses get back on their feet.”

Two households can meet outside the home with no limit on numbers.

Staycations also got the green light as hotels and bed and breakfasts were told they could reopen. Social distancing will be halved to “one-metre plus”, opening the door for new freedoms.

Church services – including weddings for up to 30 people – can restart, while museums, libraries and art galleries can open – as can theatres and concert venues, though they cannot stage live performances.

But nightclubs, indoor gyms, swimming pools and beauty salons must remain closed “for now”, the PM said.

Pensioners are among those who could be ID’D for the first time in decades under new rules for pubs.

Drinkers will have to bring their ID so the hospitality industry can help with contact-tracing efforts.

“We do not believe there is a risk of a second peak of infections that might overwhelm the NHS,” said the PM.
