TYSON: MY RACE ABUSE HELL

Taunted for his gypsy heritage

- ■ by MARK CHANDLER

HEAVYWEIGHT world boxing champ Tyson Fury has lifted the lid on his racist abuse hell.

Despite his success, the Gypsy King says he is constantly taunted about his heritage.

TYSON Fury says he is constantly taunted and abused about his gypsy heritage.

The boxer shocked the world by battling back from depression to become heavyweight champion again.

However Fury, nicknamed the Gypsy King, has revealed yobs still call him “pikey” when they spot him in his car or when he goes out running.

He said: “I’ve suffered from racial abuse my whole life, even now I still get called a pikey t ** t when I drive down the road.

“I can be jogging down the road and people shout out of their car window, ‘You bloody pikey!’ And then they just drive on. I suffer with it all the time, always have done, always will do.

“Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.”

Movie

Fury says “pikey” was originally a term used to describe non-travellers, so he did not find it offensive.

He went on: “People will say, ‘Why don’t you stand up for equality for your own race of people?’

“There’s only one race, and that’s the human race, and I stand up for the human race all the time.”

Fury, 31, beat Deontay Wilder in February to take the WBC heavyweight title, branding his opponent a “big dosser”.

And he revealed he has also been offered big bucks by Hollywood bosses for a movie based on his life.

But he said: “My story’s not done. There’s still a lot more to add to it. If the offer is big enough then I’ll have to think about it.

“But it’s not something I’m really exploring at the moment because I’m still in the middle of my career and at the beginning of my championship reign.”
