PUNTERS FACE DOWNPOURS

- ■ by JERRY LAWTON jerry.lawton@dailystar.co.uk

THIRSTY revellers planning to burst out of lockdown at their local boozer tomorrow have been warned: “Bring a brolly!’’

England is expected to go beer bonkers as pubs open nationwide for the first time in three months since Covid-19 struck.

But the Campaign for Real Ale, which is urging customers to support local bars, warned they should expect to get wet.

Most drinkers will be confined to supping in beer gardens, so should take an umbrella with them in case the heavens open.

The Met Office forecast calls for “spells of rain for many over the weekend, heaviest for western hills”. And CAMRA has warned: “If the weather takes a turn for the worse you might not be allowed to shelter inside.’’

Those who manage to make it into bars will only be able to sit with members of their own household and one other.

Outside drinkers can sit with up to five people from other households. Nik Antona

■ of CAMRA said: “As pubs across England begin to reopen it is important we give our support not only this weekend but in the months ahead so they can survive.’’

Last night it was revealed some drinkers will be asked to prove they are not from Leicester. The rule will apply at pubs and bars in the neighbouring city of Nottingham.

It comes after Leicester became the first city in the UK to be put into a local lockdown to combat a surge in virus cases.

Yesterday Prime Minister Boris Johnson begged revellers not to “undo the sacrifices you have made with reckless behaviour”.

And he also said he had booked a haircut as he was now getting “dreadlocks”.

BORIS Johnson is poised to end a travel ban on up to 75 countries by Monday – allowing Britons to go on foreign holidays.

Nearly all EU countries and British territories will be added to the quarantine exemption list for “low-risk” destinations.

This means visitors will not need to self-isolate for 14 days on their return. The Government is set to officially lift a non-essential travel ban on the countries, which include Gibraltar, Turkey, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

The air bridges policy, which would have let tourists go to specific countries without selfisolating when they are back in the UK, has been effectively shelved.
