It’s a bit Brighter

MOYES BANKING ON BARKLEY REUNION

- ■ by MATTHEW DUNN ■ by DARREN LEWIS

GRAHAM POTTER senses light at the end of the tunnel – if only his Brighton side can beat Norwich tomorrow.

A poor run of form before lockdown came to an end with a win against Arsenal.

And after a draw with Leicester, three points at Norwich will be a big stride towards safety.

“Before Arsenal, there was pressure because we had spent six months without a win and we were reminded of that pretty much all of the time,” said boss Potter.

“But it is about perspective. If we win against Norwich, it gives us 36 points, which is three points more than what we had last season with five games to go.”

DAVID MOYES is set to reignite his interest in Chelsea and England midfielder Ross Barkley.

The West Ham boss wants a reunion with the player he nurtured at Everton.

Chelsea rejected a move from Moyes to loan Barkley (right) back in January.

But he is hoping the 26-year-old could be tempted by regular starts that would put him into Gareth Southgate’s thinking for next year’s European Championship.

The Scot is determined to bring down the average age of his West Ham midfield.

Although Jack Wilshere is fit again, Moyes has been searching for options for some time and is particularly keen to work with Barkley once more. At Chelsea, boss Frank Lampard has relied mostly on a rejuvenated Mateo Kovacic, N’golo Kante, Mason Mount, Willian and Jorginho in the middle of the park this season.

Barkley, though, has started the last three games and scored in the FA Cup win at Leicester.

Southgate has Jordan

Henderson, James Maddison, Mount, Alex Oxlade-chamberlain, Harry Winks, Declan Rice and Fabian Delph to choose from for England ahead of the start of the UEFA Nations League in September.

There is also a massive clamour for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish to be called up that the Three Lions boss will find difficult to ignore.
