A “WEATHER bomb” bringing possibly the wettest July of all time has begun moving across Britain.

BRITAIN is facing a summer “weather bomb” with potentially the wettest July of all time.

Yesterday saw gusts of 67mph unleashed on pub-goers with downpours ahead for the next few weeks.

Gusts battered some parts of Britain, with Wales and the north of England getting the strongest winds.

It came on the day drinkers and holidaymakers should have been raising a glass to the start of the holiday season as campsites in some parts of the UK opened their gates.

A map showed the scale of the 800mile-wide storm with air pressure plunging from 1,000 to 975millibars in 24 hours. Frost has been forecast in Scotland this month.

Record

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze told Blowing Hot And Cold videochat: “Bad weather as lockdown eases is ironic after a great spring with people indoors.”

Floods and rain are expected to bring misery in July and make it the wettest on record.

Heavy downpours have left parts of Britain under water – with bookies Coral predicting it will be a record-breaking wet month.

EX-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond, of weathertrending, said: “Frost would not be a surprise in the most prone Scottish Glens this week.”

The Met Office has warned gusts will be 40mph today with wet and windy spells during the week in the north.

Accuweather warned of a wet summer. It added: “Summer will play out as the opposite of last summer, when most had long, dry conditions.”
