Bully’s bloodbath attack

A BULLYING headteache­r butchered his estranged wife and her new lover after catching them seeing in the new year together.

Rhys Hancock, 40, went to his former marital home with two knives at 3am on New Year’s Day.

He had discovered his PE teacher wife Helen, 39, was dating 48-year-old marketing company director Martin Griffiths.

The deranged dad, right, who had left his children aged three, four and nine at his mum’s, stabbed Helen so ferociousl­y the blade entered her stomach.

Martin was found lying next to her in a pool of blood at the £400,000 house she used to share with Hancock in Duffield, Derby.

Jeanette Stevenson, prosecutin­g, said Hancock’s mum had called police to alert them he was heading back to his former home.

The killer faced a double life jail

■ sentence last night after admitting both murders at Derby Crown Court via video-link.

Ms Stevenson told an earlier hearing: “He left his mother’s address, where his children were also staying, with two knives. “His mother said he felt like killing them. “She called 999 and informed the police that he had gone back to his former home. The police tried to contact Mrs Hancock but could only reach her answerphon­e. Police received another 999 call from Mr Hancock saying that he had murdered his wife.”

Helen broke off her relationsh­ip with the former head at Stanton Vale School in Long Eaton, Derbys, after suffering violence at his hands for years, the court heard.
