Six go for Silver Salver bonus

- By

SIX greyhounds are still in contention for a £10,000 bonus put up by the sponsors of the Colossus Bets Kent Silver Salver – if they can stay unbeaten in the three-round competition.

The longstanding sprint event kicked off with six heats over 265m at Central Park, Sittingbourne, on Sunday and the winners of those are still in line to take down the bonus on top of the £3,000 first prize.

“Nothing like this has been done in greyhound racing before and it’s created great interest,” said Colossus boss Bernard Marantelli. “Only six greyhounds can win it now, but come next week we could have three sets of owners going for gold.

“Of course, their dogs need to win their semis – but then we’ll have some fun! We’ll have a cash-out option on final night – so I’ll certainly be testing the nerve of the owners involved. They could take home £13,000 in one hit.”

Sunday’s heats were Samantha West’s Ballynabee Lucky and the Dave Mullinstrained Shrewd Call. Both stopped the clock in 16.16sec and are among the leading contenders to strike in the GBGB Category Two event.

The other heats were won by Jason Bloomfield’s Druids Brazona (16.42sec), Liz Mcnair’s King Drake (16.23sec), Michelle Brown’s Lightfoot Rio (16.54sec) and the Kirsty Graysontrained Coolavanny Dylan (16.35sec).

The semi-finals of the Colossus Bets Kent Silver Salver take place at Central Park on Sunday, with the final on Sunday, July 19. All the action will be on the RPGTV and SIS channels.
