Rash backs strike trio to carry on plundering

- by DAVID MCDONNELL

MARCUS RASHFORD says there will be no let-up from Manchester United’s free-scoring strikers.

Rashford, Anthony Martial and teenage ace Mason Greenwood have plundered a collective haul of 55 goals this season.

That is three more than the famed front three of newlycrowned champions Liverpool – Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino – widely thought of as the best attacking trio in European football.

United’s goal return is even more impressive considering Rashford (inset) and Martial have both endured two months out due to injury, while Greenwood has been used sparingly in his first full season.

Rashford has 20 goals this term – the same as Martial – and he insists United’s front three are determined to add to their haul.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are fighting on three fronts – they have five games left in the Premier League and potentially six more in the FA Cup and Europa League, giving their forwards plenty of chances to add to their totals. “It’s been brilliant,” said England star Rashford.

“There are plenty of games to go and if we keep doing what we’ve been doing, the numbers could be... well, we don’t know what the numbers could be come the end of it.

“We just need to keep working hard and be ruthless. We need that if we want to keep scoring.” United are on a 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions, since losing 2-0 at home to Burnley in the Premier League on January 22.

In that run, they have scored 43 goals and conceded just six, proof Solskjaer has them heading in the right direction.

“Confidence is high but I would say the focus is higher than the confidence,” Rashford told MUTV.

“The focus is, ‘This game is only going one way and we’re going to win and take the three points home.’ The opponent, it doesn’t matter.”

Rashford, Greenwood and Martial all scored in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Bournemouth, the latter producing the game’s finest goal with a sublime curling finish.

“We expect this from Anthony,” said Rashford. “His quality is unbelievable. He’s shown it time and time again this season.”
