Johnny Depp: Amber sliced off my finger
JOHNNY Depp claimed ex-wife Amber Heard severed one of his fingers when she threw a vodka bottle at him.
He is suing for damages over a newspaper article calling him a “wife-beater” and claimed it was Heard who abused him.
Heard, 34, alleges he attacked her on 14 separate occasions while high on booze and drugs.
But while Depp accepted he may be a hard-drinking, womanising drug-user, he said: “I would never strike a woman.”
In his witness statement, presented to the court, Depp said: “Ms Heard and I were in Australia in March 2015.
“There was a significant argument between me and Ms Heard on 8 March 2015 during which I sustained a severe injury... The only person who was harmed in Australia, grievously so, was me in March 2015, when, as I describe below, Ms Heard threw a vodka bottle at me that cut my finger off when the bottle exploded on the bar on which my hand was resting.”
Depp, 57, is suing News Group Newspapers and journalist Dan Wootton over a 2018 article “Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?”
The actor told the High Court in London: “For the avoidance of any doubt I have never abused Ms Heard or indeed any other woman in my life.” Depp said he first took drugs at 11 and introduced daughter Lily-rose to weed when she was 13. He admitted he had taken cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, and prescription drugs.
His lawyer David Sherborne said when Heard told her husband: “I don’t think I can make you happy,” Depp had replied: “I have also surmised that – from the last five or six sucker punches to my face and head – that you aren’t all that happy.’’ Mr Sherborne said Heard’s allegations could scarcely be more serious. But he claimed she had invented them. The case continues.
