- ■ news@dailystar.co.uk

A MAN was left with a bloodied mouth after a vicious attack by a seagull that went for his cheese and onion sandwich.

Stuart Emanuel, 52, was ambushed by the aggressive gull while he sat on a bench eating lunch with wife Karen in Weymouth, Dorset.

The gull bit the inside of Stuart’s lip which he said felt like being “pinched by a pair of pliers”.

Despite the birds’s best efforts, Stuart was able to hold on to his sandwich which he then chucked in the bin.

He said: “It drew blood on both sides of my lip, inside and outside.

“It was very painful and really shocked me.”

A MASSIVE crane crashed on to two homes, killing one person and injuring four more.

The 65ft machine collapsed at a building site in east London onto underconstruction flats and nearby houses, crumpling their roofs.

Firefighters attended Gale Street in Bow at 2.40pm yesterday to rescue residents.

The London Ambulance Service treated four people at the scene, two of whom were taken to hospital with head injuries.

A spokeswoman said: “We treated four people at the scene.

“Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency services, a fifth person was found and died at the scene.”

Basil Long, 39, who lives opposite the construction site, said: “It was a real shock. I literally saw it topple over.

“It was terrifying. You could see the people in the tower trying to run down as fast as they could.

“The warning shouts came early enough that I think people had a chance to get away.”

Eyewitness Bridget Teirney saw the accident while working from home and said: “It made a huge noise and a big plume of dust came up.”

The London Fire Brigade’s Graham Ellis said: “Our crews are undertaking a complex rescue operation and using specialist equipment to search the properties.”
