Mystery bloke’s a worry

-

MY new boyfriend is attentive, sexy and great fun – but he’s cagey about his past.

He refuses to talk about ex partners or explain where he was for years of his life.

My sister worries that he might have been in prison.

She fears he might have a history of domestic abuse or be hiding something embarrassing. He seems OK to me.

I call him “Mystery Man” and he laughs along, but he never reveals any more than he wants to. Am I playing with fire?

JANE SAYS: You and your sister are right to have concerns.

If something about this man doesn’t add up, if you worry that he’s hiding his past, then you have to do some research.

The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme – or Clare’s Law – allows you to find out if your partner has a history of abuse.

Call 101, visit a police station or even speak to an officer in the street about obtaining domestic violence disclosure.

Remember to always dial 999 if you find yourself in immediate danger.

If a partner does ever harm or threaten to hurt you, then you must walk away and not look back.
