CLARETS ’N PHEW!

We don’t have to sell stars insists Dyche

- ■ by DAVID ANDERSON

SEAN DYCHE insists Burnley do not have to cash in on any of their stars this summer.

Chairman Mike Garlick made a dire prediction back in April that the club would go bust by August if football did not resume.

Football has returned and Dyche says the club can weather the big hit to their finances caused by the game’s shutdown and lack of fans.

James Tarkowski, Dwight Mcneil and Nick Pope are being eyed up by their Premier League rivals, but Dyche says the club are no longer under any pressure to sell.

“It’s not a case that clubs can just make a call,” said the Clarets boss.

“There was a time during my time at Burnley that eventually players had to be sold to balance out the situation and safeguard the future.

“The future is safeguarded, the immediate future particularly, by the finances in the club.

“Eventually every player has their price and you’ve seen some astronomical fees paid for people.

“The difference is, we’re not having to sell. If we sell it will be a decision made for different reasons than would have been the case four or five years ago.

“In the past, we sold players, but now we can consider trading. We’re not in a position that we have to.

“There would have to be alignment of all the parties involved to consider it to be the right deal and that right deal is according to Burnley Football Club and not anyone else.

“That’s because of how the club is run and it’s in good shape financially, even with what’s going on with the Covid situation.”

Dyche also accused the FA of ignoring the problem of diving and says VAR could easily sort the matter out.

“No one has mentioned simulation, that’s disappeared,” he said. “No-one even gets a card anymore, which is frustrating. VAR could clean that out of the game very quickly, but no one wants to it seems.

“The powers that be don’t seem to worry about it.”

Dyche has warned his players to be wary of Norwich at Carrow Road today, claiming they can play with freedom now that they have been relegated.

“Having been through it, I still think there will be a pride and passion towards the game,” he added.

“I think they will want to finish the season as well as possible.

“We have to be ready for any reaction and to deliver a performance.”
