Cadbury shrinks choc bars but keeps price same

- by TOM REDIGOLO

CADBURY says it is doing chunky Brits a favour by making chocolate bars smaller, but the firm will still

charge the same prices for favourites like Wispa Gold.

Bosses at owner Mondelez International said all treats sold in multipacks will slim down by the end of 2021, which will help “tackle obesity”.

Louise Stigant, UK managing director, said: “We must play our part in tackling obesity and are committed to doing so without compromising on consumer choice.”

But many people online disagreed with the excuse, arguing that the “greedy” company just wants to keep its profits fat.

One outraged user said: “Thinly veiled decision to increase profitability using health as a screen.”

Another said: “This isn’t about obesity, this is about keeping shareholders happy.”

Adam French, Which? consumer rights expert, said: “It’s good Cadbury is being upfront about this change and laudable that Mondelez wants to help to tackle the obesity crisis but some customers will wonder why the prices of these products aren’t coming down along with the size.

“In recent years, we’ve repeatedly seen this trend of popular products shrinking while the prices stay the same and it is understandable that households, many of them facing a squeeze on their finances, feel frustrated by it.”

NO-ONE likes it when prices increase.

But it stings even more when we’re told a pack of lies.

Cadbury has slowly been reducing the sizes of its choccie bars for years, while keeping the price the same.

But to rub salt into the wound, bosses are claiming this latest reduction is to “tackle obesity”.

Do us a favour! They must think we were born yesterday.

If Cadbury wanted to tackle obesity, it wouldn’t be in the chocolate business. Why can’t these execs just be honest?

They have made the bars smaller so they can make more money. It’s not a crime. And at least they would be telling the truth.

It’s an insult to our intelligence to say it’s to stop us getting fat.

Most of us who eat chocolate do so as a treat.

We don’t need to have a slightly smaller bar to help us get healthy.
