when we can safely.”

When King Kenny brethren tend to listen.

Supporters broke the law when celebrating the confirmation of Jurgen Klopp’s side as champions last month but this was the ultimate test of their common sense.

It was one that some of them failed as several hundred gathered outside the ‘Paisley Gateway,’ armed with flares, to greet the team’s arrival.

But this night wasn’t about those incapable of following simple instructions, it was about a team that all celebrate together speaks, his has followed Klopp’s demands to blow their rivals away this season and return to the footballing throne they almost wore out in the 1970s and 80s.

There would be no lap of honour but there was a guard of honour from Chelsea, the team that rocked Anfield n 2014 when Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip allowed them to win a game that would cost the Reds the title under Brendan Rodgers.

There would be no tears this time though. The Blues played their part in an eight-goal thriller but they couldn’t ruin the summer homage to an exceptional team for all seasons, one that produced an exceptional encore in exceptional circumstances.

Klopp had said that waiting to get his hands on the Premier League trophy had felt a ‘bit like Christmas.’

He might have a point, although Christmas comes round once a year and the Reds have had to endure three decades of them before their main present arrived – and even then they couldn’t open it with their loved ones in close attendance.

But we all know what comes to those who wait – and Liverpool last night finally had their hands on that precious title trophy.
