Fans blast his private jet trip to the Algarve
JOHN Terry has jetted off to Portugal, despite fears of a coronavirus second wave in Europe.
The Aston Villa assistant coach jumped on a private plane with wife Toni to celebrate after his team avoided relegation.
Villa secured their Premier League safety after drawing 1-1 with West Ham on the final day of the football season on Sunday.
The loved-up pair posed for a snap while enjoying a glass of bubbly on the plane and they put it online alongside the Portuguese flag.
The Chelsea legend also gave his Instagram followers a glimpse of his luxury villa in the country, where the couple are staying.
The airy pad in the Algarve boasts an outdoor swimming pool with sun-loungers and a large patio.
He then posted pictures of an idyllic beach bar nearby where the couple enjoyed more drinks. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) currently advises British nationals against all but essential travel there.
The guidance states that travel to Portugal is subject to entry restrictions, including a health screening on arrival.
On returning to the UK, travellers are told they must self-isolate for 14 days and provide journey and contact details in case they’ve caught coronavirus. Anyone who refuses to self-isolate may be fined up to £1,000 or face further action. One Instagram follower couldn’t resist a jibe, posting: “Have a great time! Hope you all isolate when you get back.” Another wrote: “Congrats for staying up with Villa, have a great trip, Mr Chelsea. Don’t forget to wear your mask.” And a third posted: “You will have to isolate when you get back but have a good time. “Still think Brits shouldn’t be allowed to leave the country, stay safe.”
Villa’s draw against the Hammers saw Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich relegated.
Terry, 39, has been assistant coach for Villa since 2018 but has been tipped to take over at Bristol City after Lee Johnson was given the boot. A spokeswoman for the former England captain did not want to comment last night.
