HALL’S PLEA FOR MORE BBC CASH
Boss wants global expansion
BBC boss Lord Tony Hall has begged for more taxpayers’ cash despite refusing to pay licence fees to the over-75s.
The broadcaster wants to double today’s worldwide audience figures of about 468million to one billion as it battles Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney +.
And to do it Lord Hall says the Beeb needs more cash so it can “carry Britain’s voice”.
The outgoing director-general even claimed the BBC could help boost trade for the country.
He said: “My goal was to double our global audience to 500m people by 2022 – our centenary year.
“With two years to go, we are reaching 468m people each week. We have plans in place to double that ambition to one billion people by the end of the decade.
“But it needs extra investment from Government and that bid is with them right now.
“No-one can do more to carry Britain’s voice and values to the world. We even help UK trade.”
● THE BBC last night confirmed Land Of Hope And Glory and Rule Britannia! will be performed at the Last Night Of The Proms on September 12.
It follows an outcry after it was reported the two tunes could be axed over claims they are linked with colonialism and slavery.
THE BBC really needs to learn how to read a room.
At a time when many are calling for the bloated corporation to be downsized, it has the cheek to demand more money from the Government. Outgoing director-general Lord Tony Hall wants to grow its audience by more than double. And the deluded bigwig has begged the Government for more taxpayers’ cash to do so.
You what?
It’s almost like he didn’t see the fury over the withdrawal of free licences for the over-75s. We’ve been propping up this outdated and pompous organisation of luvvies for years.
Take your begging bowl somewhere else – you’re lucky you even still exist.
