Egan eyeing up Arc glory in Paris

- ■ by CHRIS GOULDING

DAVID EGAN is starting to dream of glory on his first-ever ride in the Prix de l’arc de Triomphe on Mishriff.

The jockey is hoping John Gosden’s colt gets the green light for the great race as he missed out on winning rides in his last two races .

Egan, retained jockey for the three-year-old’s owner Prince Faisal, was unlucky not to partner Mishriff when he won the French Derby owing to the coronavirus restrictions faced by British-based jockeys riding in France. A further blow came when he was unable to take the mount in the Prix Guillaume d’ornano at Deauville as the former champion apprentice was serving a five-day ban that he picked up at Glorious Goodwood.

After Mishriff’s latest success earlier in the month, winning rider Frankie Dettori suggested the colt would be a worthy player for the Arc.

“It was unfortunate not to have ridden him in his last two races,” said Egan. “But it was good for the Prince as he deserves to have a good horse like that, you know. He’s an owner breeder and puts a lot into the game.”

Mishriff is a 10-1 chance for the Arc on Sunday October 4.

“I wouldn’t know if he definitely runs as that will be discussed between the Prince and Mr Gosden (his trainer),” added Egan. “Hopefully, if he does, I will be on board.

“It would be an amazing, unbelievable first ride to have in the Arc. He will relish the soft conditions that you’re expected to get at that time of the year. He will go on it better than most.”
