BAND’S PSYCHIC FEAR

-

rockers are worried they might be able to see the future, after seemingly predicting lockdown on their new album.

The Brighton boys’ second album Death Of The Party, out this week, has songs about a looming catastrophe, despite being recorded last year.

Singer Jack Kaye told me: “We were sensing some kind of change in the world.

“I’d never claim it was prophetic, but we could see an obvious big movement and change was happening – so the songs have a new lease of life in lockdown.”

Jack didn’t think that he would miss not being able to play live as much as he has.

He admitted: “I miss the contact with fans so much. I’ve been looking at photos of our last tour, and it just seems a million miles away.

“I hadn’t appreciated how much I’d miss having our songs sung back at us. Missing out on that with a new record out is so tough, I can’t imagine how much of a celebration it’ll be when we can finally do it properly again.”

Lyrically, the new album was inspired by Arctic Monkeys’ last record Tranquility Base Hotel And Casino.

Jack revealed: “I’ve never met Alex Turner, who seems quite an elusive character. The first hero I met was Johnny Marr.

“It was really early on in the band, so I just ran up to him like any fan would, telling Johnny how much I loved him like he hadn’t heard that a million times before!”

Lockdown has at least given The Magic Gang more time to write.

Alex explained: “I’m almost obsessive about being disciplined when I write.

“I’m not sat around waiting for a eureka moment, I put the hours in.

“We’ve all been writing a lot more, so we’re already firing on all cylinders for our next album.”
