CHELSEA have handed Thiago Silva a one-year contract to help guide team-mates nearly half his age.

The 35-year-old Brazilian joins on a free transfer from Paris St-germain after winning 23 trophies in eight years.

Last season Blues boss Frank Lampard blooded a host of Academy products in the first team.

Now he’s gone for experience in a bid to land the title again and Silva admitted: “I’m here to challenge for honours.”

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Silva’s world-class credentials.”

BEN STOKES admitted he wasn’t mentally right to continue playing for England as his dad battled brain cancer in New Zealand. JURGEN KLOPP insists Liverpool will continue to do it their way in the transfer window.

The Kop boss believes he doesn’t have to match the big spenders to be successful.

will never have, that type of relationship where I go to Mike Gordon and say, ‘That’s the money I need and without that we cannot survive’.

“It’s not about how many players anyone will sign. It’s about the club.

“There are other clubs that have different policies. But that was the same last year and the year before.

“Our way didn’t harm us. I cannot change that and I don’t want to.”

Klopp ruled out Liverpool making a move for wantaway Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

The Kop boss added: “Who doesn’t want to have Messi in his team? But, no chance.”

Klopp may send 20-year-old striker Rhian Brewster out on loan to gain more experience.

He said: “We want to use Rhian, but help him as well and that’s why we have to make a decision.”
