Red-hot Hollie eyes first Group One
HOLLIE DOYLE will bid to extend her Midas touch to Group One level aboard Archie Watson’s Glen Shiel in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park next Saturday.
The jockey made history on Saturday with an 899-1 five-timer at Windsor – the first time a female rider has achieved the feat in Britain.
And she continued her hot streak with a 90-1 treble at Yarmouth yesterday.
The 23-year-old has forged a potent partnership with Lambourn-based Watson, who yesterday hailed Doyle as “the best around”.
“You see her riding day in, day out against who everybody perceives to be the best and she consistently beats them,” said Watson.
“We’ve had 99 winners together. She is very, very consistent – she doesn’t makes mistakes.
“For me, she’s the best jockey around. I don’t use outside jockeys but, even if I did, I wouldn’t put anybody up over her, and when some of these bigger connections put her up on horses in these Group Ones, she’ll be winning them.”
Former André Fabre trainee Glen Shiel is a 20-1 shot for next weekend after a win in the Group Three Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh earlier in the month and Watson said of the sixyear-old: “He’s not a young horse but since we’ve dropped him in trip his form has been incredibly good.” BRITISH raiders played a starring role at Deauville yesterday as Hughie Morrison’s Telecaster gained a six-anda-half-length win in the Group Two Grand Prix de Deauville.
It came after Stuart Williams’ Breathtaking Look captured the Group 3 Prix de Meautry by three and a half lengths.
