Adele race row

Singer backed over bikini snap

- ■ by KATE NELSON kate.nelson@dailystar.co.uk

NAOMI Campbell showed her support for race row Adele yesterday.

The singer was accused of “cultural appropriation” after wearing a Jamaican bikini to mark the Notting Hill Carnival. She also wore a yellow feather headdress and wore her hair in Bantu knots. One troll posted: “Black hairstyles are not for white people to steal.”

But model Naomi, whose mum is Jamaican, backed Adele by responding with two heart emojis.

Singer Alexandra Burke said: “As a Jamaican girl myself, my girl has grown up in black culture. People forget she’s from Tottenham. She probably eats jerk chicken all the time like all of us.”

And Tottenham MP David Lammy posted: “Poppycock!

This humbug totally misses the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival and the tradition of ‘dress up’ or ‘masquerade.’

“Adele was born and raised in Tottenham she gets it more than most. Thank you Adele.”

Adele, who has lost 7st, wrote in her post: “Happy what would be Notting Hill Carnival my beloved London.” She added a Union Jack and a Jamaican flag emoji.

ANYTHING will spark an online row these days. Social media bores pretend to be outraged, even if they couldn’t care less about the issue at hand. They are utterly joyless human beings who clearly have nothing better to do with their time. Adele is just the latest figure to find out about this trend. She has been on the receiving end of a backlash for an Instagram post celebrating Notting Hill Carnival. The singer was accused of “cultural appropriation” for her clothes and the way she styled her hair in the photo. What a load of nonsense. She was clearly trying to respectfully mark the occasion. But predictably, critics used it as an excuse to lay into her. It’s pathetic. The trolls who attacked her want to silence everyone on the internet. No doubt it makes it easier that she’s a woman. This sorry episode is another reminder of how sinister social media can be. Instead of making us more connected, it drives us further apart.

People need to grow up and get a life.
