ELLIOTT’S ACHIEVED FIRST GOAL
HARVEY ELLIOTT fulfilled a boyhood dream when he scored his first goal for Liverpool.
Elliott netted in Liverpool’s 7- 2 friendly win over Blackpool and says not even playing behind closed doors at Anfield could take the shine off it.
The forward grew up in Surrey as a Liverpool supporter and Steven Gerrard was his big hero.
Elliott, 17, had always imagined what it would feel like to score for the Reds and says it was every bit as sweet as he had dreamt.
“It was great to score for my boyhood club,” he said. “It’s been a dream ever since I was a little boy.
But I just need to keep going, keep putting in the performances and hopefully opportunities will come.”
Jurgen Klopp has big hopes for Elliott and handed him his first pro contract in July as reward for his eight senior appearances in his debut campaign with the Reds.
Elliott, who joined from Fulham last summer, played twice in the Premier League and finished his first season with FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup winners’ medals.
“My main goal is to get in the team, get a few appearances here and there,” said the England Under- 17 star. “It’s a very hard team to get into, with world- class players here.
“But even training with these guys every day and being around the coaching staff every day, it’s just a dream come true.
“Any opportunity I get I’m very grateful for. Hopefully I can prove to the gaffer that I can live up to the standards.”
Klopp was delighted to see Elliott get his first goal and says he is teaching him all aspects of the game.
“It’s in his hands,” said the Kop boss. “Inside this little boy is a playmaker but he has to be a finisher as well.”
