YOUR Daily Star has made sure you can still get Wagon Wheels and Jammie Dodgers despite a strike – just 24 hours after clawing back £ 2.4million from a publicity- shy couple.
BISCUIT bosses have urged Daily Star readers not to panic over strikes that threaten production of Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels.
Burton’s Biscuits said a staff walkout today at one of its factories will not lead to a shortage as stocks are high.
Workers will stage a 24- hour strike at the site in Edinburgh with more walkouts planned for the next two Wednesdays in a dispute over pay.
A spokesman for Burton’s said: “We can assure Daily Star readers that the proposed industrial action at our Edinburgh bakery does not affect supplies of their everyday favourites such as Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels or Maryland Cookies as they are not made there.”
He said that Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels were produced at Llantarnam in south Wales and Maryland Cookies in Blackpool.
He added: “At this stage we do not envisage the proposed industrial action resulting in any shortage of supplies from our Edinburgh bakery as we have a plentiful supply awaiting distribution.
“We’d like to thank Daily Star readers for their support and hope they continue to enjoy our products.”
The GMB union has accused the firm of failing to improve a “derisory” annual pay rise offer of
1.6%. More than 200 members are set to strike today.
Benny Rankin of GMB Scotland said: “The fact management claim to be shocked at our claim for a rise that would put just 65p an hour on the wages of the lowest paid shows how out of touch they are.
“Burton’s think it is credible to offer just 14 pence an hour more.”
Burton’s said it was “shocked” at the GMB’S request for 7% but bosses are keen to resume talks.
