Lamps’ pledge to fans who welcomed him back

Lampard’s first home game as Blues boss came back in August 2019, when his side laboured to a disappoint­ing 1- 1 draw with Leicester.

And the former Chelsea midfielder, a giant in his playing days with the club, said an emotional thanks afterwards to supporters for the warm welcome they gave him.

That season ended without silverware but now, after a record summer spend, Lampard is confident his squad are ready to win trophies.

He said: “I will always remember the reception of the fans when I walked out at Stamford Bridge for the first time as Chelsea manager.

“It was really humbling for me, having been away and then coming back in a different capacity.

“It was an amazing feeling and I loved ved it. This is my club and there are not ot many people that are fortunate e enough to have the journey that I’ve e had.

“I’ve completely engulfed myself f in this job and I want to bring success s to this club.

“Coming back to Chelsea and d receiving the reception that I did d from the fans, you want to bring the e supporters that success because e they deserve it.”

Cup. But they are still fighting on three fronts and face Southampto­n this Saturday looking to improve after winning two of their opening four Premier League games.

He H admits he is still learning the ropes rop as a manager but is determined mi to make sure all the hard work wo pays off.

Lampard said: “It’s a tough job but it’s a rewarding job. I’m driving myself daily to be better and we know what it takes to taste success here.

“We want to do well and we know there’s a lot of work to be done to achieve our goals, but unless you give it absolutely everything, then, that’s not going to happen.”
